At Wednesday evening's school board meeting, Angela Caraway and Nick Billington were sworn into their new three-year terms by our secretary to the board, Kristy Panos. Both were originally elected to the board in 2021 and re-elected last week.
We asked what makes them most proud of Kirksville Schools, this is how they each replied...
Angela Caraway: I’m most impressed by the district’s commitment to providing students with multiple resources to help them achieve their educational, social, and emotional wellness goals. The efforts made to engage families and the community in fostering student success is an exceptional testimony to the teachers, administration, and staff of the Kirksville R-3 district.
Nick Billington: My favorite thing about our district is how passionate our staff is for our kids. I also love to see the KATC kids have a passion for a skill or trade. My favorite thing to do personally is watch Tiger football Friday evenings at Spainhower!

We are so proud of Mrs. Tracy Vorkink, math teacher at Kirksville High School! She has earned her National Board Certification for teachers. NBC is the highest certification a teacher may obtain--only 1.66% of all Missouri teachers have earned this distinction.
Congratulations, Mrs. Vorkink, we are happy you are a Kirksville Tiger!

"Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead." --Louisa May Alcott.

J. R. R. Tolkien said, "Look, up at the sky. There is a light, a beauty up there, that no shadow can touch." He was mostly right, except shadows are involved in an eclipse and literally don't look directly at the sun unless you have the proper glasses, Mr. Tolkien. Did we mention that thanks to our Kirksville Hy-Vee we were able to get almost all of these eclipse glasses for our students and staff? They even donated enough for all students at ECLC, KPS, and RME. Thank you, Hy-Vee! Pics from across campus, part seven... #kvpride #kvtigers #welovekirksville

As you check out the eclipse picture posts, notice it wasn't just about watching it. The background, the science, was taught and recreated. From eclipse cookies to eclipse math to art projects, many different contents also got involved! Pictures of eclipse day across campus, part five... #kvpride #kvtigers #welovekirksville
All buildings were engaged with the eclipse today, all age levels. The district provided viewing glasses for all. Pictures of eclipse day across campus, part four... #kvpride #kvtigers #welovekirksville

Today in the hallways of Kirksville Schools you heard teachers talking about eclipses they remember watching as students. Hopefully this one stands out in the memories of many of our students for years to come. Pictures of the day across campus, part one...
MO DHSS Asks Schools to Help Prevent a Measles Outbreak
As of March 21, 2024, there are 64 confirmed measles cases in the U.S., compared to 58 total cases reported for the entire year of 2023. Among the cases reported in 2024, over 90 percent were linked to international travel, and most have been among children aged 12 months and older who had not received the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine.
This week has been National Assistant Principals Week and we have five of the best! We appreciate all of their hard work, even when it might seem unnoticed. #kvpride #kvtigers #welovekirksville
April is School Library Month; April 4th is School Librarian Appreciation Day. We have four important librarians that we appreciate. Thank you ladies for passing on your love of books, reading, and information to countless students! #kvtigers #kvpride #welovekirksville
Paraprofessional Appreciation Day fifth fact: other names for paraprofessionals include paraeducators, teaching assistants, or instructional aides. We call our paras at the Early Childhood Learning Center assistant teachers. No matter what you call them, they are the glue that holds together our district. We couldn't do it without the over 70 paras we celebrate today!

Paraprofessional Appreciation Day fourth fact: even if your child doesn’t have a one-on-one para or get to work with one daily, chances are they have one somewhere that has taken time to encourage them and be a positive role model for your kiddo.
