In between the snowstorms this week there were some hours where garden classes at Ray Miller Elementary were able to get outside, plant some seeds, and enjoy the spring weather. Students planted lettuce seeds. They will keep them inside on a mobile grow cart for now. When the seedlings are ready, and the weather is more dependable, the classes will transplant their lettuce out to the garden.

We will be running a 2-HOUR DELAY and on SNOW ROUTES on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
After many missed days of school, we are working diligently to get students back in the classroom tomorrow. With slightly warmer temperatures expected tomorrow morning, we will be operating on a 2-HOUR DELAY, with buses running on SNOW ROUTES. Our buses are stored in heated buildings overnight, allowing them to warm up more quickly. If you choose to drop your child off, please note that drop-off lines will begin two hours later than usual. Rest assured, our buildings will be warm and ready to welcome students. If you choose to keep your child at home, that is a family decision.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

Ms. Robbi Shedron, Support Paraprofessional for our English Language Learners (ELL) at Kirksville Primary School and Ray Miller Elementary, had an idea some time ago. She knew of a local Congolese family looking to send children's books in English to their school in Africa. So, Ms. Robbi and her students began collecting children's books at KPS and RME that would otherwise have been sent to recycling. You can see photos of the piles of books they gathered.
The Kirksville family packed the books and sent them by ship to Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. After months of travel, the books have finally arrived at the school in Africa! Ms. Robbi noted, "These kids all live in an orphanage and have nothing, so these books were really special for them."
Good work, Ms. Robbi, KPS students, and RME students!

Monday Momentum for February 17, 2025
Pictured this week are photos of our first two high school buildings. The original Kirksville High School operated from approximately 1897 to 1915. The next high school was located at the corner of East Washington and High Street and was in use from 1915 until 1960, when our current and third high school building opened its doors.

Due to extremely cold temperatures that won't rise much during the day, school will be CLOSED on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. It will be AMI Day 5.
