The Kirksville High School remodel project includes a redesign of the commons area. Entry through the new main entrance and secure vestibule will lead to doors offering access to either the KHS office or the updated commons. The commons area will be enclosed, making it suitable for all-weather use and available year-round.
Currently, high school students eat lunch in three shifts. Enclosing the commons area will accommodate more students per shift, providing greater scheduling flexibility around lunch and potentially reducing the number of shifts from three to two. The all-weather space will also offer a more dependable area for learning and various activities, including cheer practice, with ceilings high enough to accommodate it. The high school remodel is expected to begin in the summer of 2025, with completion anticipated in the summer of 2026.
Dirt work has commenced within the construction fence for the new parking lot.
