In the event of inclement weather, school may need to be canceled, delayed, or dismissed early. It is also possible that buses will only be able to operate on designated snow routes only. Procedures for all of these situations are listed below. Announcements will be made by the district as early as possible when any of the inclement weather procedures are to be followed.

All Kirksville R-III weather-related school announcements will be made via parent/guardian text messages and through the following outlets:

School Cancellation

School Cancellation Procedures

1. Every effort will be made to cancel school by 6:00 AM. However this may not always be possible, so cancellations may occur later.

2. School days canceled in their entirety will be made up in accordance with the school calendar.

Two-Hour Delay

Two-Hour Delay School Start Times

ECLC: NO AM HALF DAY CLASSES. Drop off will start at 9:00 AM and school begins at 10:00 AM for FULL DAY ONLY. Buses will run for FULL DAY ONLY, picking up students approximately two hours later than their regular schedule.
KPS: 10:10 AM

KATC: 9:47 AM

*Buses will unload at each school approximately two hours after their normal times.

Two-Hour Delay Procedures

1. School officials will strive to announce the delay of school by 6:00 AM.

2. When a two-hour delay announcement is made, buses may run regular routes or snow routes. Please continue to monitor announcements for updated information. If conditions deteriorate, a decision may be made to close all schools for the day.

3. During a two-hour delay, morning bus transportation will be delayed two hours from normal pick-up times. Buses could be running slower due to weather conditions.

4. When school is delayed, it is important that children are not sent or dropped off at school prior to the delayed start time. Building staff will not be available to supervise children earlier.

5. Morning ECLC classes will be canceled for the day with afternoon classes remaining as scheduled.

6. No breakfast will be served. Lunch will run as usual with some possible changes in serving times and/or the day's menu.

7. School dismissal will remain at the normal time for these days.

8. Scheduled cocurricular activities will be adjusted accordingly.

Early Dismissal

1. Every effort will be made to announce early school dismissal by 10:00 AM. However this may not always be possible.

2. When an early dismissal is announced each school will dismiss students approximately 2 hours before their normal release times. Buses will run approximately 2 hours early dropping off students.

Buses on "Snow Routes Only"

Bus Snow Route Procedures

1. Every effort will be made to call it a "Snow Routes Only" day by 6:00 a.m. However, this may not always be possible and the announcement may occur later.

2. Snow routes will be run in the afternoon, if they occurred in the morning to avoid confusion unless announced otherwise.
