ASSISTANCE FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
KATC is accessible to individuals with disabilities. Parking space is reserved for those vehicles displaying the Disabled Placard. The doors are double-wide to accommodate wheelchairs and the south set of doors has an automatic door opener. The restrooms are also wheelchair accessible.  In addition, the school employs a Vocational Resource Educator (VRE) to assist students with disabilities in the successful completion of their programs.  Students with disabilities, as addressed by the Americans with Disabilities Act who require accommodations for either testing or during program training, are responsible for initiating such services.

To obtain accommodations, students must:
1. Self-identify: Contact the VRE regarding the disability and the accommodations needed. This must be done in a timely manner, or delays in service provision may be unavoidable.
 2. Verify: Provide current documentation from a qualified professional. The documentation must clearly support the need for any requested accommodations.
3. Determine: The VRE, in some cases in conjunction with others, will determine the appropriate accommodations based on the documentation provided.

Every effort is made to accommodate individuals with disabilities.  The staff at KATC works with students on a case-by-case basis to ensure that they receive the same quality education as other students.

CAREER EVALUATION CENTER
The Kirksville Area Technical Center houses an Evaluation Center which offers individuals practical assistance in educational and career planning.  The center helps individuals to identify their interests, aptitude, and abilities as they relate to individual educational or employment opportunities.  For additional information contact the KATC at 660-665-2865.

COUNSELING
The school counselors of Kirksville R-III School District believe a comprehensive school counseling program is an integral part of a school district's total educational program. It is designed to be developmental and includes sequential activities which are organized and implemented by professional school counselors with the active support of parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and the community.

As a developmental program, the needs of all students are addressed through facilitation of a program that supports and encourages students' academic, career, and social/emotional development.  It also helps create positive and safe learning climates in schools.  At the same time, the program aids students as they work through issues and resolve problems that carry the potential to impede upon their long term development.

Four interrelated program components of counseling curriculum, individual student planning, responsive services, and system support are delivered in order to fully implement a comprehensive, K-12 school counseling program. School counselors assist all students in completing a college and career ready curriculum that prepares them for their successful transition to post-secondary education or the world of work.

Counseling services at the KATC are provided by Cindy Basler. Cindy Basler has over 17 years of experience in education. She has a B.S. in Elementary Education from Hannibal-LaGrange University (2002), a Master's in Counseling from Stephen's College (2012) and is a certified Psychological Examiner from Missouri Baptist University (2022). MISSOURI OPTION
The Missouri Option Program permits full-time, public school enrolled students who are age 17 to 20 years and who are at risk of dropping out or not graduating with their cohort group the opportunity to earn a standard high school diploma. Students can stay in school, participate in meaningful classes and support services, and graduate on schedule; students must meet all requirements to graduate on schedule.

RESOURCE EDUCATOR
The Resource Educator provides resource assistance for individuals with disabilities enrolled in a Technical Education Program at the Kirksville Area Technical Center.  Individuals with disabilities generally have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan.  The IEP or 504 Plan should outline accommodations that may be needed for the student to succeed.  The Resource Educator works with the student to ensure accommodations are implemented in his/her technical classes.  These accommodations provide the student an opportunity to achieve the same competencies that other students will achieve in the class.  In addition to serving the student, the Resource Educator acts as a liaison between the faculty and staff from our sending schools and the Kirksville Area Technical Center.  Also, the Resource Educator can provide resource assistance for parents.

THE ATTIC
“The Attic” provides students direct & discreet access to what they need, when they need it, free of charge.  If we do not have what the student needs, we will do our best to find it! Most clothing items are adult sizes XS-3XL; however we encourage students/teachers/counselors from all schools to reach out to us if they can utilize adult size clothing and footwear.  Of course, our personal care items are ONE SIZE FITS ALL!
