INSTRUCTOR BIO
Mrs. Simler began her career in nursing at the age of 19 as a Nurse’s Aide for Chariton Valley Residential center.  She continued to work at that facility while obtaining her license to become an LPN through the Practical Nursing program at the Kirksville Area Technical Center. She graduated in 2006 and become employed at Northeast Regional Medical Center as an LPN.  She started on the medical floor and worked her way up to the progressive care and surgical floor. In 2008, Mrs. Simler graduated from Indian Hills Community College with her Associates Degree in Nursing.  She decided to try a new direction in the medical field and took a job in case management at NERMC but after a few years she chose to come back to floor nursing on PCU, surgical, medical and critical care unit. Mrs. Simler found her passion while orientating new nurses to the facility and the profession. She worked at NERMC for 11 years before taking the position of PN Instructor at the Kirksville Area Technical Center.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing through University of Central Missouri in 2017 and completed her Master's Degree in 2021.

 Mrs. Simler has been married since 2005 to her high school sweetheart.  They have 2 beautiful little kids, Parker and Addison. She currently resides with her family in Kirksville, MO.

INSTRUCTOR BIO
Mrs. Munn is a Kirksville native and proud to be a part of this community.  She graduated Kirksville Senior High School in 1996 and KATC's Practical Nursing Program in 2001. Prior to coming to KATC to teach, she worked as the "House Supervisor" at Northeast Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Munn and her husband, Josh, reside in Kirksville.

INSTRUCTOR BIO
Mrs. Whitlow graduated from St. Luke’s College of Nursing in 2005 with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), and immediately began her nursing career at North Kansas City Hospital.  She held various positions and worked in a variety of units including Float Pool, Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, and Transfer Center during her over 14 years at that facility.  During her time at NKCH she obtained certification as a Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN).  After moving back to Northeast Missouri, she eventually took a position at the Adair County Health Department as a Home Health Nurse.  After leaving Home Health she worked as Health Coach Assistant at Davis County Hospital and Clinics prior to joining the faculty at the Kirksville Area Technical Center.  

Mrs. Whitlow resides in Schuyler County with her husband Travis and daughter Brenna.  They enjoy raising and showing Boer goats.

APPLICATIONS FOR THE PN PROGRAM CLASS OF 2026 ARE NOW OPEN! APPLICATIONS ARE DUE MAY 1ST.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Practical Nurse program is for ADULT STUDENTS interested in working as practical nurses.  One class is admitted each August. Program requires approximately 11 months and includes scheduled breaks as listed in the current Practical Nurse Program Handbook.  

​KATC is committed to excellence and provides invaluable educational preparation through classroom, skills lab, and clinical experiences. The program is fully approved by the Missouri State Board of Nursing and by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. 

Following satisfactory completion of the program, the graduate will be eligible to apply to the Missouri State Board of Nursing for permission to take the licensing examination for Practical Nurses.  The passing of this examination is determined by the National Council of Nursing Boards and entitles the candidate to certify as a LPN in Missouri. Successful completion of the program does not guarantee eligibility to take the licensing examination.
